OBJECTIVES OF NURSING CARE “Nursing care” means treatment of the patient’s illness or injury by a registered nurse or a licensed practical nurse that is ordered as required in 400.487(2), F.S. and included in the plan of care. 1. To assist the individual to regain or maintain his maximum degree of health. 2. To recognize the physical, social, economic, and psychological needs of each individual that result from his particular health problem. 3. To design a plan of nursing care based on knowledge and scientific principles that will meet each individual's particular needs and will assure each patient a maximum degree of safe, effective and therapeutic nursing care. 4. To assist the patient and/or family to understand his health needs in order that he may help himself to the limit of his ability. 5. To cooperate with related medical, educational, and welfare services in determining the overall plan of health care. 6. To carry out those aspects of the physician's medical plan of care which he has delegated to nursing and care within the nursing function. 7. To adjust, maintain and coordinate those aspects of the physical environment which will contribute to maximum comfort and well being for each patient. 8. To keep accurate records of nursing care and the patient's response to that care. 9. To continually evaluate the quality and effectiveness of nursing care and to adjust and expand the scope of nursing services in keeping with the growth of scientific and nursing knowledge.
