MDT Home Health Care Agency, Inc. ACCIDENTS 1. Accidents and/or injuries, no matter how slight, must be reported at once to the Director of Nursing, Clinical Manager. 2. Accidents to patients: Falls: a. If a patient falls out of bed or slips and falls on the floor, call the Director of Nursing, Clinical Manager immediately. b. Do not attempt to move patient. c. Place a pillow under head. d. After the RN, Therapist or Case Manager examines patient and thinks patient can be safely moved, two or more persons lift patient to bed. e. If broken bones are suspected, make patient as comfortable as possible. Do not attempt to move. f. Call attending physician, PA, ARNP, and 911(Emergency services) if necessary. g. After patient has been attended to, Director of Nursing, Clinical Manager or qualified designee is to make out accident report. Send copy to the Patient’s Physician. h. Original is placed in patient's chart, and the copy go to agency’s Incident Report folder. i. Supervising nurse also charts incident on nurses' notes, denoting time, extent of injury and treatment. 3. Accidents to Employees: a. All injuries and/or accidents are reportable immediately to Director of Nursing, Clinical Manager either by injured party or by witnesses. This includes burns, abrasions, lacerations, strains, and sprains. Home Health Agency Nursing Manual J-5
