MDT Home Health Care Agency, Inc. EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE POLICY The Agency will maintain equipment, owned and/or used by Agency staff, in accordance with manufacturers’ written guidelines. When no written guidelines exist, the Agency will establish appropriate procedures or will arrange for another individual/organization to provide equipment maintenance. PURPOSE To assure that equipment used by Agency staff is both safe and accurate. PROCEDURE 1. The Agency will maintain Equipment Maintenance Log: Scales for timeliness of equipment maintenance, as well as serial numbers of equipment. 2. Scales: Maintain scales free from dirt, etc.; clean scales after each use with an Agency approved disinfectant. Protect scales from sudden and/or prolonged weight bearing. Calibrate (check accuracy) annually (more frequently if needed) by: Obtaining a standard weight, e.g., five (5) or ten (10) pound. Placing a weight on the scale and adjusting dial to correspond with standard weight, e.g., dial should read five (5) pounds with five (5) pound weight on scale. Remove weight; the dial will then be at the absolute zero. Document maintenance checks. Home Health Agency Nursing Manual J-75
