MDT Home Health Care Agency, Inc. OXYGEN PROCEDURES Purpose: Oxygen is used to allow patient to breathe more easily. Equipment: 1. Emergency oxygen tank with regulator and mask or cannula. 2. Large oxygen tank for prolonged use. Procedure: 1. Bring equipment to bedside. 2. Start oxygen at 2 liters (or as ordered). 3. Place cannula around head with short prongs inserted into nose. 4. When oxygen is no longer needed, remove from patient room and clean all equipment. See that tank is replaced, if necessary. Replace cannula or mask after use. The Oxygen use agreement, will be completed, signed at Start of Care, as part of the Admission process. Oxygen Safety check (as part of our potential fire risks evaluation process) will be completed at Start of Care, and every 60 days as part of the recertification procedures, if the patient need continue with services.
