MDT Home Health Care Agency, Inc. GOWN TECHNIQUE Purpose: A gown is worn to protect a uniform from contamination. Equipment: Isolation gown. Procedures: 1. Wash hands. 2. Open gown and put arms through sleeves. 3. Wrap gown around back and secure with ties at neck and waist in back. To remove gown for re-use: 1. Using water and basin in room, wash hands thoroughly. 2. Step close to doorway of room and untie gown. 3. Slip gown forward on body and arms without touching outside of gown. 4. Continue until gown is worked to wrists. 5. Holding inside of one sleeve, remove opposite surface. 6. Step outside doorway and hang gown with inside together, over hook on IV pole. Note: If gown is to be disposed of, follow above procedure, but place gown in linen hamper. 7. Wash hands in alcohol and iodine solution. Home Health Agency Nursing Care & Procedures K-15
