MDT Home Health Care Agency, Inc. LEVINE TUBE FEEDING Purpose: To allow nourishment and medications to be given to patient who cannot swallow. Procedure: 1. Bring blended liquid from kitchen. 2. Warm feeding by standing container in collection container filled with hot water. 3. Bring equipment to bedside. 4. Explain procedure to patient. 5. Remove bulb syringe from set and fill with 20 cc of water. 6. Remove cap from levine tube and instill water from bulb syringe. 7. Remove bulb from syringe and slowly pour feeding into syringe. NOTE: TRY NOT TO ALLOW AIR INTO TUBING. 8. When feeding is completed, instill 20cc more of water into tubing. 9. Remove equipment, wash thoroughly, and return to proper area.
