MDT Home Health Care Agency, Inc. APPLICATION OF LEG DRAINAGE BAG Purpose: To allow patient to ambulate without difficulty while insuring continual bladder drainage. Equipment: 1. Leg drainage bag 2. Thermometer bag Procedure: 1. Bring equipment to bedside. 2. Explain procedure to patient and screen patient. 3. Open equipment. 4. Disconnect Foley drainage bag at bedside and cover thermometer bag. Secure between mattress and springs. 5. Connect leg bag drainage tube to opening of catheter. 6. Place leg bag against thigh and secure with straps. 7. Assist patient to dress and unscreen patient. 8. When patient is ready to return to bed, reverse procedure. NOTE: MAKE SURE TIPS OF ALL DRAINAGE TUBES ARE PLACED IN THERMOMETER BAGS TO KEEP THEM AS CLEAN AS POSSIBLE. Home Health Agency Nursing Care & Procedures K-38
