MDT Home Health Care Agency, Inc. TO Sit: Patient grasp chair arms as you both slowly squat legs. Stand close but give patient room to lean over. You then assist patient to slide further back in chair. Bed to chair/sliding: - Chair against bed, arm off. Sliding board tucked in place. On chair side you support patient's legs against your knees and patient's trunk by your shoulder. Then grasp transfer belt to slide patient across board. (If needed, another helper steadies board or chair). Bed to chair (from long-sitting position You steady chair as patient pushes back with arms. For the patient who must sit upright: 1. Arrange three or four large pillows, each overlapping the other at the patient's back. 2. Do not let the pillows crowd against the chest. 3. Support the patient's head with small pillow. 4. Place a large pillow under each arm as an arm support. NOTE: SOMETIMES AN OVERBED TABLE CAN BE PLACED IN FRONT OF PATIENT WITH 1 OR 2 PILLOWS PLACED ON TABLE, AND PATIENT TOLD TO LEAN FORWARD ON THEM. Home Health Agency Nursing Care & Procedures K-46
