MDT Home Health Care Agency, Inc. PARTIAL BATH Purpose: Many patients require only a partial bath. If the patient's energy must be conserved, such as with a cardiac or respiratory patient, he may not have the strength for the added activity that a complete bath necessitates. Equipment: 1. Wash basin 2/3 full, water 115 degrees F. 2. Soap in dish 3. Articles for bath rub 4. Comb and brush 5. Bath blanket 6. Deodorant 7. Face cloth 8. Bath towel 9. Talcum powder 10. Articles for mouth care NOTE: All equipment should be readily available. Procedure: 1. Screen patient if necessary. 2. Fanfold linen to foot of bed, if linen is not to be changed, and cover patient with a bath blanket. 3. Bedpan should be offered to patient. 4. Prepare top of bedside table as in bed bath to allow room for your work area. 5. Mouth care can be given at this time. 6. Remove patient's gown. Following the procedure taught in bed bath, assist the patient to wash his face, hands, back and buttocks; axilla and arms; feet. Lower back rest (if permitted by doctor) for washing of back and back rub. A.M. care: Partial bath includes: Face, hands, axilla, back, buttocks, genitals, feet. P.M. care: Face, hands, back. Apply a film of talcum powder to washed areas, if desired. Help patient back into his gown or pajamas. Tighten the lower bed linens and brush any crumbs from bed.
