MDT Home Health Care Agency, Inc. SITZ BATH Purpose: 1. To relieve pain and discomfort in the pelvis. 2. To relax and comfort the patient. 3. For treatment of inflammation and infection. Equipment: 1 . Bath tub, or sitz chair, if available 2. Bath towel 3. Rubber ring and extra bath towel 4. Bath blanket Procedure: 1. Fill tub or sitz chair with enough water to cover patient's hips. The temperature win vary according to the type of bath prescribed. ALWAYS ASK NURSE IN CHARGE. 2. Explain procedure and take patient to area where treatment is to be carried out. 3. Allow patient to sit on rubber ring covered with bath towel, if desired. 4. Place bath blanket around patient's shoulders to prevent chilling and spread it over tub. 5. Allow patient to remain for 20 minutes or as ordered. 6. Add more water as necessary to keep temperature even. 7. Assist patient from tub. Help patient to dry, dress, and return to room. 8. Clean tub, replace equipment. 9. Report duration of bath and reaction of patient during bath to nurse in charge. 10. Record on proper chart form. Home Health Agency Nursing Care & Procedures K-65
