MDT Home Health Care Agency, Inc. POST MORTEM CARE (when we provide staffing to an in-patient facility) Notification: 1. If you are alone at home with patient, call family members to return home. 2. Call patient's physician to come and pronounce death. 3. Call and notify our/your agency. 4. Remain with patient until properly relieved or until family members arrive to take over. Body Preparation: 1. Do not disturb body till death has been verified. 2. Lower bed, leaving one pillow under head. 3. Close eyes, restore dentures and close mouth. 4. Straighten extremities, place arms at sides. 5. Remove all drains, dressings and appliances. 6. Bathe the body. 7. Apply padding to prevent drainage from rectum and bladder.
