MDT Home Health Care Agency, Inc. INFECTION CONTROL POLICY POLICY: To be in compliance with Infection Control and Prevention standards. Infection prevention and control. Our HHA will maintain and document an infection control program which has as its goal the prevention and control of infections and communicable diseases. (a) Standard: Prevention . Our HHA will follow accepted standards of practice, including the use of standard precautions, to prevent the transmission of infections and communicable diseases. (b) Standard: Control. Our Agency will maintain a coordinated agency - wide program for the surveillance, identification, prevention, control, and investigation of infectious and communicable diseases that is an integral part of the HHA’s quality assessment and performance improvement (QAPI) program. The infection control program must include: (1) A method for identifying infectious and communicable disease problems; and (2) A plan for the appropriate actions that are expected to result in improvement and disease prevention. (c) Standard: Education . Our HHA will provide infection control education to staff, patients, and caregiver(s). For our staff well being, and the well being of your patient, we outline the following procedures to guard against infection. Our Agency will be in compliance with our Infection Control policies and procedures (see Infection control Manual), which is in compliance with accepted professional standards and principles. 1. Please wash your hands before and after each procedure. 2. In the event of an exposure to a pathogen please make an immediate report to the Director of Nursing, Clinical Manager. This office must be notified immediately and the staff involved must report to the nearest hospital emergency room and will return to work only after a physician has cleared him/her of any communicable infection. 3. When working with patient, remember to avoid any and all contact with the patient's body fluids, especially blood and blood products. Read and be familiar with the attached pamphlet on how to prevent catching any virus. 4. This agency is not liable for our health care worker who contracts AIDS or any other virus in the course of performing his/her professional duties. 5. Establish a goal of improving influenza vaccination rates among our staff to match CDC goal that by 2020 the 90% of healthcare workers are vaccinated for Influenza, within staff consent/willing. For more policies on infection control our agency asks all of its employees to read the accompanying scripts which are summaries from the CDC and the Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services. Post Exposure Protocol - If blood and/or body fluid exposure occurs, such as needle stick, direct skin contact, or splash to eyes, mouth or nose, wash/flush area as appropriate immediately. It is the Policy of Our Agency, that the employee must Report the incident to Supervisor and/or Director of Nursing, Clinical Manager immediately. If Agency is closed, notify Nursing Coordinator/On-Call person, to coordinate evaluation. If post exposure prophylaxis is indicated for possible HIV exposure, it is optimal for treatment to begin within 1-2 hours after incident. Home Health Agency Nursing Care & Procedures K-76
