Double plastic bags should be used for disposal of the following items: solid tissues, sanitary napkins, dressings, used gloves and disposable gowns. Dispose of all liquid waste as instructed. Wash hands after removing gloves. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS WHEN USING OXYGEN The patient and family are educated regarding safety precautions when oxygen is in use. Oxygen Agreement must be completed at Start of Care. After the initial home safety evaluation is completed, agency staff will perform a home safety assessment every time they enter a patient’s home. The Oxygen safety check will be reevaluated every 60 days if the Patient continue with services. When oxygen is administered, certain precautions must be taken to prevent explosions, fire, etc. They include the following: · Smoking is prohibited in areas where oxygen is in use. NO SMOKING signs shall be posted. · All electric cords must be grounded. · All oxygen delivered to the patient must be humidified. · Any defect in the oxygen administration system, such as a leak or a malfunctioning flow meter, must be reported immediately to the Agency. · Oxygen equipment must have an oxygen pressure interlock system and fail-safe mechanism. Agency staff shall notify the patient’s physician if the patient is found noncompliant with safety precautions when oxygen is in use. L-21 Home Health Agency Client Assessments
